"Are you ready to start your journey to parenthood feeling connected and supported?"
What Is A Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is someone who provides unconditional physical and emotional support, as well as information and education support to new families following the birth of a new baby and into the first year of life.
As your postpartum doula, my focus is on you. YOU need just as much care, nurturing, love and support as a new baby does. If your needs and wants are being met, you will feel prepared to be the best parent for your baby, your cup needs to be full too. Too often parents fall between the cracks when a new baby is born, where they are burnt out, sleep deprived and feel a lack of support by those closest to them. They disappear off the face of the earth for some time, and resurface months later worse for wear. Parents without the right support around them can quickly find themselves entirely depleted and consumed with the haze of constant feedings, household chores that continue to pile up with no time to rest and recover. This is where a postpartum doula steps in.
I will be there to provide a non-judgmental, caring ear to listen to every concern, answer every question and soothe your cries as motherhood takes hold. I will be there to help with the challenges you face that day, to empower you to trust your mothering instinct, to nourish you with foods that promote your healing and breastfeeding, to give you time to rest while I watch baby and other siblings, to guide you to evidence-based resources and education, and to brainstorm and implement ways to improve you and babies daily flow.
How I Work With You As
Your Postpartum Doula
As a Mum of two I know that every baby is different and the support you need with your baby will be different from everyone else. The support you need may even be different to what you needed with your older children. Because of this every session I offer is different, totally customisable and tailored to what you need at that time.
A postpartum doula's support is unique where my visits are different from those of friends and family, you don't have to make an effort when I visit - I am there for you and to assist in your rest and recovery! Most of all when I leave I'd like you to be feeling rested, refreshed and confident to face another week of raising your new babe.
A session can include the following:
- A general tidy up around the house/house reset
- Helping you get the rest you need by watching older siblings, doing housework while babywearing, and helping tick off your to do list
- General debriefing/emotional support, debrief of your birth
- Listen to you and answer questions or concerns about personal care, new-born care, food, breastfeeding or bottle feeding, etc.
- Assess a feeding and make any adjustments to ensure maximum comfort and success for you and baby
- Demonstrate how to use any baby carriers and breast pumps safely and confidently
- Guidance on biologically normal infant behaviours around feeding, sleep and settling
- A safe space to talk and make your own decisions
- Support finding your village and asking for help
- Help with meal and snack prep/ filling your freezer
